BIOPROTECT
Innovative method for amplifying the effect of a broad-spectrum biocontrol agent
USE CASES
To date, there are no treatments available to combat the bacterial pathogens responsible for blackleg disease (Dickeya and Pectobacterium). The methods used are prophylactic approaches: elimination of batches of seed tubers or plants carrying these pathogens, resulting in significant economic losses for producers.
ADVANTAGES
The development of an innovative biocontrol solution will address two challenges: securing the production of potato seeds, and even other sectors, and responding to strong societal expectations that demand the use of products that respect the environment and the health of users and consumers.
The BIOPROTECT project offers an original solution for amplifying the effect of a biocontrol agent. It is a new concept developed around blackleg disease or soft rot in potatoes, but which aims to establish a generalizable principle applicable to other pathosystems.
APPLICATIONS
The objective of the maturation program is to increase the number of targets for the biocontrol process (phytopathogens other than Dickeya and Pectobacterium in order to increase the potential market for the biocontrol agent). More specifically, it aims to broaden the scope of application of the BIOPROTECT solution to other pathosystems and to consolidate the concept of amplifying the effect of a broad-spectrum biocontrol agent.
