USE CASES

Pain is a major problem for patients, healthcare systems, and society as a whole.

Every year, more than 300 million surgical procedures are performed worldwide, with 50-80% of patients reporting significant postoperative pain. Among them, ~30% develop chronic postoperative pain (CPPS).

Current treatments have limited duration and efficacy, impact motor function, and cause side effects, including increased opioid dependence (opioid crises).

ADVANTAGES

The project aims to develop a new non-opioid analgesic based on mycolactone. It offers the following potential advantages: long-lasting effect, analgesic efficacy, no impact on motor skills, no dependence, and very limited toxicity.

The project team has developed an innovative formulation, making the product soluble and stable and enabling its development as a drug.

APPLICATIONS

The non-opioid analgesic developed by the RELIEF project can be used as a local anesthetic.

It will initially be used to treat intraoperative and postoperative pain.
