USE CASES

The ENTENTE oscillator is a clock signal generator that synchronises data in connected systems and enables the transmission of the synchronised signal over long distances.

The basic concept of the all-optical ENTENTE oscillator involves sending a continuous optical signal, at wavelengths used by telecoms applications (around 1550 nm), into a chip incorporating silicon photonic circuitry. Within this circuitry, the ENTENTE nanometric system enables a very high frequency (GHz) to be efficiently imprinted directly onto the optical carrier without any intermediary or multiplication stage. Consequently, at the chip’s output, the optical signal is modulated at these frequencies and can be used directly in existing fibre-optic networks.

ADVANTAGES

  • Power consumption 1,000 times lower than that of the best VCOs, TCXOs, OCXOs or OEOs.
  • Wide operating frequency range and high stability.
  • Optical integration on a PIC and compatibility with fibre-optic networks.
  • Immunity to electromagnetic interference.

APPLICATIONS

Ultra-stable optical clock for high-performance computing and telecommunications.
